The international bodypainting community is preparing for another vivid chapter in its annual artistic record as photographer and editor Dimitri Moisseeiv launches a Kickstarter campaign to fund a his Bodypainting Artventures Magazines.
The publication, which began seven years ago with the help of early crowdfunding supporters, has become a comprehensive chronicle of contemporary bodypainting culture, festivals, and artistic innovation around the world.
Moisseeiv, a two-time World Champion in bodypainting photography, first discovered the artform more than a decade ago. Captivated by its combination of fine art, performance, and transience, he began traveling globally to document bodypainting through photography and video. His work eventually evolved into the Artventures magazine series, an annual project dedicated to preserving the fleeting nature of painted body art in a high-quality, permanent format.
Since its debut, the magazine has published six editions—most recently the 260-page Issue 6 (2024)—each offering a blend of festival coverage, artist features, and behind-the-scenes storytelling. Issue 7 aims to continue this tradition with an expected length of approximately 200 pages.
Inside Issue 7: A Global Survey of Bodypainting
The upcoming edition will highlight work from several continents, with coverage from major festivals and individual studio projects. Among the confirmed features are:
- Art from around the World
- Guest Artist: Bella Volen
- Hvar Bodypainting Festival (Croatia)
- Featured Photographer: Daniel Janesch
- French Bodypainting Award (Paris)
- World Bodypainting Association events
- Featured Model: Olga Brumar
- Montreal Body Art Jams
- Biomechanical Airbrush Style of Alex Hansen
The magazine’s visual storytelling will take readers from coastal landscapes to major European capitals, capturing both established and emerging artists at work. To provide new supporters with a sense of the magazine’s scope and production quality, Moisseeiv has made the 150+ page first issue available to preview for free at MagCloud.
A Continuing Mission to Document a Temporary Artform
Bodypainting remains one of the most ephemeral forms of visual expression, often lasting only a single day before it is washed away. The Artventures series aims to preserve these artworks, giving them a lasting platform and offering readers a detailed look at the creativity and technical skill behind them.
Moisseeiv describes the ongoing mission as an effort “to share this amazing artform with the world and ensure that the pieces created during festivals and competitions are not lost to time.”
