LOST TREASURES - Underwater Bodypainting project from Peter & Petra Tronser
LOST TREASURES (Verlorene Schätze)
An underwater Bodypainting project in the open sea from Peter & Petra Tronser and their team was realized during the last summer in Cyprus. What was the background and the challenges of this project? Peter & Petra tell us in this blog post more about that.
Peter: „Oceans are the source of our life! For many centuries, the oceans were able to protect themselves through their size, the remoteness of their habitats and their depth. Our precious, unique underwater world is threatened by overfishing, littering and our encroachment on marine ecosystems - as we know them. These issues have inspired us to create a series of extraordinary underwater body paintings.
With Swiss underwater photographer and project initiator JOCHEN FRENZER, this wonderful journey into the unknown was created over a period of two years.
This project demanded the highest standards from all participants, the material and the technical equipment. An unprecedented underwater bodypainting shoot, in the open sea, at a depth of up to 30 metres, we created a dual photographic concept.“
Powerful in colours and shapes.
Peter: „This performance is meant to build a bridge between commercial benefit and the environmentally conscious respectful treatment of nature. We juxtaposed the beauty of nature, as well as cultural and historical mementos that are being lost, with human simplicity. For us it meant a lot of testing and trying out with colours and materials. Since no one had done something like this before. There were many failures in this exciting project, as no one could tell us which materials would work in salt water and at depth."
Together with a great international team of 10 people, they were able to realise the image ideas.
Peter: "Thank you to everyone who worked on this project, planned, contributed their ideas and suffered along with us.“
